Dsc00012-bevelaaa.jpg (131654 bytes) Here is a ten inch glass tool with a sharp edge. Look closely and you can see the edge has begun to chip.
Dsc0047aa.jpg (172517 bytes) After only ten minutes of working the edge with the sandpaper and block we have enough bevel to stop the chipping.  Ten more minutes work would improve the bevel.
This flake chip was probably caused by resting the heavy blank on its edge.  But it could have just as easily been caused by touching the blank to the side of a porcelain sink or to another blank.
Glass is very strong but not compressible. If a 100 pound blank rests on 1/100 square inch the pressure is 10,000 pounds per square inch.
